Passing through the town of Vrchlabí is rather complicated. If you don’t want to stick to the busy roads, it’s necessary to keep near the river. If then you want to continue further upstream, it’s possible to use the frequented road along the river from Vrchlabí to the resort town of Špindlerův Mlýn and subsequently, even along the dead end path to Labský důl (the Elbe valley), in which the upper part is pedestrian only. Cycling all the way to the Elbe’s spring is not possible, but you can get to the mountain ridge by taking your bike onto a chairlift that runs from Špindlerův Mlýn to the Medvědín Mountain, and continue along a mountain road and path via Vrbatova bouda (Vrbata’s hut) to Labská bouda (Elbe’s hut). It’s possible to park your bike there and walk about a kilometre to the Elbe’s spring, while following local marking. Please note: cycling on the stretch between Vrbatova and Labská bouda is due to the protection of the environment made possible for a trial period and it’s strictly prohibited to divert from the asphalt path or damage the nature in any way. Your journey will be rewarded with the last point of the Elbe River’s Greenway – the Elbe’s spring.
